About Me
Hi. My name is Steph Price. I live in Brooklyn, NY where I work as a copywriter in advertising. At least I used to. I quit my job in July of 2011 to spend a year (or longer) doing travel and service work.
First stop was returning to Haiti- the beloved country that changed my life after a two month stint in 2010. This go round I worked with European Disaster Volunteers (EDV) helping to teach and manage their free English School. I stayed until the end, with EDV pulling out of country Dec 1. Myself and Debra Meaden now go down several times a year to administer exams as the school carries on as a Haitian-led initiative.
Next was India. Spent nearly a month as the only volunteer in a tribal village in Kerela. Here I worked to replaster a mud hut in the middle of the Western Ghat Mountains. A lot of work. A lot of silence. A very rare, beautiful experience. More info here.
Then to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to work as a Leadership Resident with The Harpswell Foundation. Here I live and work with 34 University girls, teaching English, reading the newspaper together and am basiaclly an RA/ professional role model. Yep.
Come April 2012 I’ll be heading back to Haiti. First to administer exams to the EDV students and then to lead 2 6-week backpacking trips through Operation Groundswell. We will take a group of 12 people to build biosand filters in Leogane with All Hands. Then the next 6 six weeks will be spent working with EDV’s school (English in Mind Institute as we’re calling it…)
I will be going back and forth to Haiti again in September and November to administer yet another round of exams. After and in between, it’s up in the air. This blog is a collection of my adventures. I post as regularly as Internet permits.
